Every United States Senator has the opportunity to nominate ten candidates for attendance in each of the following academies: the Military Academy at West Point, New York; the Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland; the Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York. The academies then choose five candidates based on each institution's selection criteria.
Appointments to the Coast Guard Academy, located at New London, Connecticut, are handled by the Academy itself on a competitive basis. Members of Congress do not nominate to this academy. Further information should be obtained from the Coast Guard authorities.
If you are interested in pursuing a nomination to the above institutions, please contact Rod Sweetman in Senator Lincoln's Little Rock office at (800) 352-9364 or (501) 375-2993.
