Army Sergeant Bradley W. Marshall, a paratrooper from Little Rock, Arkansas, died on July 31, 2007, at the Forward Operating Base in Kalsu, Iraq, from wounds sustained in combat. He was 37 years old. Sgt. Marshall was assigned to the B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 377th Parachute Field Artillery Regiment, 25th Infantry Division, based in Fort Richardson, Alaska. Marshall served in the Army from 1990 to 1994. He later reenlisted in 2006 and was deployed to Iraq in October 2006. According to Lt. Col. Jonathan Allen of the U.S. Army public affairs office in Alaska, as a forward observer, Sgt. Marshal “would go out front and direct artillery fire.” His duties called for a great deal of knowledge and his training was in “map reading and working with a compass.”
He was remembered by friends and family as a fun-loving, athletic outdoorsman who loved fishing, boating, hunting, camping, and hiking. He also loved to build and reconstruct homes. Sgt. Marshall’s faith was an important part of his life. He was a member of Bingham Road Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Gina Marshall, and his two sons, Wesley Wayne and Tanner Wade Marshall. At his funeral service, Wesley described how his father stopped by his bedroom each night to say, “I love you.” Tanner put together a slide-show of his father featuring pictures of his dad at home and abroad.
Sgt. Marshall is also survived by his parents, Wayne and Fran Marshall; sister, Kim Mayo, and her husband, Terry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Family members were presented the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and other honors for his service in Iraq.
